What rises before the Sun, in the natal chart, shows an emphasis of experience, excess, or combustion.

  1. What do you mean when you say, “what rises before [your] sun” ?  How do you go about finding that in the chart?

    • I was hoping someone would ask and I’m glad you did!! :-)

In your natal chart, what’s the first planet that shows before your Sun but after the Ascendant?  So if Venus is in the 3rd house, Jupiter in the 5th, and the Sun is in the 10th — Venus rises before the Sun.

(I hope I got that right. I think I do but I’m unsure why I’m second guessing myself… meh! There’s my answer.)

Have you heard that anything that is conjunct the Sun is combust and overemphasizes that planets qualities?

For example, Sun Conjunct Venus will make someone overwhelming popular and liked (Whitney Houston, for example and many superstar vocalists, artists, and musicians).

Well that’s why it’s important to know what rises before the Sun because it’s essentially like a conjunction to the Sun (even though it’s not technically) and it will make that planet just as important, if not more-so than the Sun.

For me, Saturn rises first and I have a Saturn ruled chart.  I’m pretty darned serious whether I like it or not. :P  And so it’s like Sun Conjunct Saturn.  I got a lot of wet blankets that are thrown onto me and that I have to fight to get off of me.  I guess having Mars rise next (before the Sun) helps me dig out.  LOL

If you have Sun in the first house and nothing rises before it, I’d say you are one super duper happy person and everyone probably loves to be around you!! :D

      • Oh okay! Well than I wish I had Sun conjunct Venus! That would be nice. I think I’m quite unpopular!

In my chart, the planet that rises before the Sun would be Pluto – which sits in my 2nd house (which is ruled by Scorpio). But I was just reading how this placement is mostly generational since Pluto stays so long in a sign, so I’m kinda disappointed. Pluto is pretty participatory in my chart, with 4 aspects to other planets and Midheaven. But I don’t think I have a Pluto ruled chart. I always thought it was Uranus and Saturn since they have so many aspects to the rest of my chart.

This is really interesting! I’m learning so much from you!! <3

        • I wish I had Sun Conjunct Venus too!  haha
But I’ll get it as a progression in late 2013!
          — Consolation prize.  hehe

Don’t worry about the ‘generational’ stuff.  This is YOUR natal chart and everything is important, truly.

What is not generational, I can assure you, is the house placement and what your Pluto connects too.  So it’s still significant. Got to quiet the lower Plutonian self-talk. ;P

So, like my Saturn it’s not a ‘pretty picture’… we’re serious and life is serious about us.  haha…

Pluto rising first would show issues of power, control, transformation, insight, and wealth (amongst other things).  With every planet and sign, there is a negative and a positive.  When dealing with Pluto, it’s especially important to be on the light side of Pluto since it’s already quite dark and can hide in a negative space.

I’d say self-esteem is one of your biggies… but it’s not only a challenge, it’s one of your biggest strengths… With Pluto in the 2nd, it comes up as Venus Conjunct Pluto and that can be powerfully good or powerfully bad — it’s up to you to decide (here’s where freewill comes into play with astrology — a rarity, in my experience!).

You can attract wealth to you, even love. Yes, love.  Once the self-talk has turned exceedingly positive through the power of Pluto!

The House ruler is the sign that rises on your Ascendant.  I imagine that’s Libra for you, right?!  So you’re Venus ruled. :-)

Thanks for sharing your appreciation.  I could talk all day about this stuff but got to run.  Much love <3

Confused!! The first planet after my ascendant is the moon in the first house. Then a stellium of Capricorn in the second house. Mars in the fifth. Venus in the seventh. Then sun in the eighth. . . So the planet that rises before the sun is my moon?

          • Apparently, not so confused because you got it! :P

Yes — it doesn’t matter what’s between the first planet, after the rising, and your Sun.  It’s just one more way to read a chart.

Moon rising before the Sun suggests that your base needs and instincts have a big prominence in your life and that your emotional / instinctual self is seen first and that many decisions made are based on your Moon (Aquarius?!).

            Make sense?

By the way, what do you do for a living with that Capricorn stellium in the 2nd?! :)

            Thanks for clarifying!! :D
My moon is in Sagittarius! I’m still in school. I have no idea what I want to do career wise.
Do you consider 3 planets a stellium?
2nd house, Capricorn has Neptune Uranus saturn opposite my 8th cancer with “stellium” sun mercury Jupiter

Love your posts! I like your perspective and teaching style!

          • Oops… Sag! I was thinking backwards again. lol

You’re welcome! Thank you for asking….

Oh. Ha. You’re still in school! High school or post secondary?  If post secondary, what are you taking?  You are likely to have Leo on the 9th so that would suggest studying arts and humanity (literature, drama, art — creative stuff) or business management, advertising, or marketing. Any planets in your 9th or 10th?

Glad you’re loving my posts. <3 And thanks for the kind kudos on my teaching style.  Hope to hear from you again! :D
