The Astrology of Projections & How to Heal Them

Projections are insidious and pose a difficult paradox to solve, as one attempts to weave through the labyrinth. Projections are extremely hard to get a handle on, as our unconscious often finds the material too upsetting to handle openly and directly.

In astrology, personal projections are the domain of the 1-7th house axis.
Non-personal projections are the domain of the 4-10th house axis.

Have you had someone project their shadow or gift on to you, and after self and external reflection — your impression is that while the projection may have something to do with you, it is more likely material that the projector is attempting to work out?

Are you saying: I’m fine or comfortable with that? I’m not too much, or too little of what they’re saying about me? Then the projector may be using you as a scapegoat to work out their issues.

If that’s the case, here are six ways to respond to, and resolve projections from others so that you don’t get tied up into the drama of their psyche AND so they begin to do their own dirty work:

1. Yes, I know. And…? (Alt: I know I am, but what are you?)
2. Oh — so you’ve been working with that (doing that, etc.)?
3. Thanks, but no thanks.
4. Let me tell you about a time when…
5. That’s interesting..
6. Oh — Is that what you think about yourself / your motive? (Alt: I know you are, but what am I?)

Four ways to learn from what you project:

1. Notice the negative and positive things you say about and to other people. You know — the judgements, assumptions, and character flaws and character brilliance.
2. How does or has that manifested in your life? Do you want more of less of it?
3. Resolve, Redeem, or Renew. Resolve, Redeem, or Renew. Turn negative, into positive. Enhance positive, and see the dark side. There is no light, without the dark.”
4. Forget about it. Stop noticing it in others. When you do, nod. When they do, nod. Don’t give it energy, or weight. Understand. Have compassion.

If you haven’t learned much about projections (outside of what I wrote above), here are a few informative links:

Wiki Answers on Projection & Transference | Shadow Projection is Its Own Medicine | The Astrology Place Note: The out of print Liz Greene book noted at The Astrology Place is probably connected to this book (a less expensive option). Barriers and Boundaries: The Horoscope and the Defenses of the Personality. I haven’t read either so I am not certain of their contents.

One day I hope to gain a degree in sociology/psychology. And I would like to institute “Projection therapy”. Which would be as simple as: What don’t you like about another? And the therapeutic dialogue part would be to help the patient acknowledge, accept, and resolve that within their own make-up. As well as find solutions to problems, as all answers are contained within — and are connected to the universal mind.

Projections are a painful truth, and is a self-healing tool.

“The unconscious side of us has a different schedule to the conscious side. It wants to get a certain experience by constellating into our lives those lessons the unconscious needs. It does this by manifesting outside events and influences that override the efforts of the conscious to avoid them.” Alison Chester-Lambert from Astrology Reading Cards.

If you were not aware before, be aware now — anything, I mean ANYTHING you say about someone else can easily be connected back to you. There is an interplay between yourself and other or the internal and external.

You can’t know, what you don’t know exists.

The one exception (that I can readily assess) is if you are *trained* to observe and see something in another such as a psychologist, officer of the peace, etc. and without a doubt do not possess that particular trait in abundance, or of note. Another example is if someone points out a trait or projection to you such as a friend, family member, or the projector themselves.

Do note that even if you do not utter projections out loud, they are still occurring. And just because someone says something about someone else, does not mean they are not aware of that very same thing existing within their own selves. In other words, not everyone is ignorant to their projections. You can find this out, if you will, by questioning them (see Six Ways above).

And if you find yourself saying something nice or naughty about me, do consider that it’s probably a projection — for good or evil and may not actually be my truth.

Astrology Angular House Projection Examples:

Mars in or on the 7th (Barack Obama, Colin Farrel, Stephen Arroyo, Sylvia Brown, Janet Jackson, Demi Lovato, Tina Turner, Mariah Carey, Adolf Hitler, Tom Cruise, Rihanna, Whitney Houston: The native may think that others are the one’s being aggressive and competing against them. This may be true, as the native attracts similar creatures, but they TOO are also of such a temperament. The positive projection of Mars in 7th is attracting sexual, active, and fearless partners.

Neptune in or on the 10th: The native projects the unconscious of the people. The people also project their collective conscious on to the native. This placement is often great for spiritual leaders (Jesus, Mother Theresa, Oprah Winfrey, Liz Greene, Aleister Crowley) who are in a position to redeem and rehabilitate their sisters and brothers. But also great for actors and performers, who need to readily connect to and carry away the spirit of the viewing audience (Orlando Bloom, Clint Eastwood, Russel Crowe, Trent Reznor, Bob Marley).

The following is an example of 4th/10th non-personal projections. Alanis Morissette: Mars on 10th, Moon Scorpio (Pluto) in 4th. Moon Square Mars. Mars in 12th. Mars Square Uranus, Venus, Moon.

“Not All Me”

I wear their faces all on top of my face
I am the perfect target screen
For your blindly fueled rage
I bare the brunt of your long buried pain
I don’t mind helping you out
But I want you to remember my name

It’s not all me
It’s not all my fault
I may remind you, but I won’t take it all on

Past riddled rage
I see the buttons I engage
With my dignity in place?
I’m all too happy to assuage

It’s not all me
It’s not all my fault
I may remind you, but I won’t take it all on

Lest I find my voice
Find the strength to stand up to you
Lest I stay to my limit
And only take on what is mine to

We are a team
I’m here to help mend and reseam
All I trigger unknowingly
A job I hold in high esteem

It’s not all me
It’s not all my fault
I may remind you, but I won’t take it all on

It’s not all me
It’s not all my fault
I may remind you, but I won’t take it all on
I’ll only take some of it

Neptune: Where you are Uknown, Misread, or Glamorized

Can anyone really know what exists in wherever your Neptune resides? It’s a slim chance really.

I have Neptune in the 10th. Some days I can’t believe what people make up about me. Even those closest to me have a hard time seeing me clearly. Before and during the beginning stages of learning astrology I used to complain about my Neptune in the 10th.  Now, with what I know, I’m kind of embracing it.

Who cares if people make up stuff (positive or negative) about me?  What does it really matter to me?  Certainly, I wouldn’t want false and damaging accusations made about me or my work but whoever says it, owns it.  So on a psychological level, what’s it to me that others make stuff up about me?  If it makes them happy, so be it. If it was good enough for David Bowie, it’s good enough for me. :D

Note: David Bowie has Neptune in the 8th.  People assumed stuff about his sexuality. He couldn’t care less.

Chart Reading Tricks: Where’s Your Mars? What Are You Tireless About? What are your PASSIONs?

Where’s your Mars? What Are You Tireless About? What Can You Go On Forever About?

* What house is your Mars in?
* Look for the signs Aries AND Scorpio. What houses are those signs on?
* What planets, if any, are in those houses?
* What are the themes of those houses?
* What signs or planets are in your house of Scorpio (8th house)?

+ My Mars is in the 7th (natural house ruler: Venus)
+ Aries is on the 3rd house cusp (natural house ruler: Mercury)
+ Chiron is in the 3rd (natural house ruler: Mercury)
+ Scorpio is on the 10th house cusp (natural house ruler: Mars)
+ Neptune is in the 10th (natural house ruler: Saturn)
+ Leo is on my 8th (natural house ruler: Mars)
+ Virgo stellium in my 8th (natural house ruler: Mars)

This is where I don’t give up, what I could do forever, what I can be tireless about — to the point of exhaustion:

I’m a long distance bike rider. I can speak assertively and fearlessly from the moment I wake to the moment I sleep. I speak with force and energy – quickly! I love trade and commerce and I’m a strong worker. I email, email, email. I phone, phone, phone. I have a daily blog and I write all over the darn place (forums, other blogs, social networking, on and off-line), quickly. Tweet, tweet. (Aries/Mars on the 3rd). I encourage people to speak their peace, have their voice heard, and to heal their communication challenges and I do this for myself too -Aries!! (Chiron in the 3rd). I don’t give up on relationships. I don’t shy away from difficult topics or challenges when I’ve obligated myself or chose to be under contract. (Mars in the 7th). I delve deeply into the occult science. I’m seen as a 24/7 psychic bridging the natural world to the supernatural world. Always on, ready to read. LOL (Scorpio on the 10th, Neptune in the 10th). I create, create, create. I’m an entrepreneur and will readily come up with new services, websites, service names, etc. I will lead when others will only follow. I get down to the depths of art and drama. Creative, role player. ;-)  (Leo on the 8th). I think, think, think. I delve into minutia. I take big and complex things a part to make them small and easily digestible. Mental sex?! I’ve been known to be  a tease ;P (Virgo stellium in the 8th). I don’t have any planets in Aries and only Scorpio Neptune!!

As usual, just skimming the surface.
Where’s your Mars? What Are You Tireless About? What Can You Go On Forever About?

These are your gifts, the energy that gets self-replenished — this is where your PASSION flies.

(Notes: We could include Pluto for Scorpio; however, I really wanted to stick to pure Mars (traditional signs/planets) for this chart reading trick™. Use whatever house system you want.)

Natal Aspects: Saturn Opposition Neptune

I have Saturn Opposition Neptune with a Saturn ruled chart and Pisces North Node. My Neptune is in the 10th house.

I definitely the mixed up product of my parents.

Here’s some of my experiences with this aspect from one angle:

My Saturn Side

In the 4th house.

My Dad’s a Capricorn / Aquarius.

He owned his own business in recycling and was a typical Cappy / Aqua.

When I was younger (before 30) I was largely a conservative business person, who couldn’t understand how artists and writers could be given grants.  It seemed like such a scam to me. And while I was interested in art, I didn’t see it as something I could make a living at so I took business, accounting, and marketing instead!

I lived the corporate norm life.  Had a car, stocks, bonds, a healthy savings account, and I had plans to buy my own home.

Being a hard core skeptic, I didn’t believe anything unless I tested it for myself.  Like many skeptics, I visited a psychic but either tested them or didn’t quite believe them.

I thought I was adopted because my Piscean hippy artist Mamma kept talking about some pretty trippy things.

When I was seven, we were having a lovely summer walk and she was almost ready to go back west (she was in for a visit, parents separated when I was young –  my 4th/10th S-O-N axis also indicates that).  She said to me a few things, one was that I was an Indian Princess (I’m part Mi’kmaq) and the other was this:

If you ever need me, I’m in the palm of your hands.

She was speaking in a language that I would understand at that age.  She was basically saying that we are are tied by energy and that her and I had a clairsentient connection.

I loved my Mom, and was sad for her to be leaving but I always thought she was a little freaky!

My Neptune Side

In the 10th house.

As my 30th approached, I noticed my desire to unleash my creative side and meet creative people.  That’s when I hooked up with my first close artist friend (ie someone who openly and actively shared their artistry with me), who became my boyfriend (a Taurus).  I was very pleased because I felt I was on my way to becoming whole and that I denied this part of myself for too long  I didn’t know how to be an artist at the time so the next best thing was being with an artist.

The Taurus helped me blossom into my Neptunian side.  I had enjoyed singing as a child and been in the choir, but he was the first adult I had sung in front of.  I remember nervously squeaky out some sounds and he was completely encouraging.  He left me at his place to play around with his studio equipment and those were great memories!  He also did some collaborative art with me and helped me have a softer edge.  I drew a lot of flowers that year and I drew my first awesome flower with his encouragement and soft non-teaching skills.

Around this time I learned more about my ancestry, and that I come from a line of tea leaf and tarot readers; however, no one had done it for money nor told me about it until they saw me start practicing it (they started showing me their psychic paraphernalia and I was shocked but then again, I was standoffish in my youth about all that mumbo jumbo stuff so I’m sure they didn’t feel comfortable sharing it with me ;-).

While one’s Saturn Return often suggests a sense of becoming mature, settled, a full sized adult — I had already been mature so it was time for me to cut loose.  So during my Saturn Return I quit my day-job and began the journey of becoming a self-employed person.

It was important that I took on something that wouldn’t limit my freedom and ability to be non-scheduled —  a complete departure from my Saturnian days as I was tired with the rat race. I decided web design would work.  Then that didn’t. Then I fell into becoming a professional psychic and now I’m moving into finding my place in the art world and becoming the artist I’ve always been. I’ve also become a believer!

The Opposition

The opposition is about extremes and bouts (versus, vs).  It’s about the see-saw effect, back and forth, difficulty seeing the other side, and experiencing challenges in balance.

Saturn Opposition Neptune

The Saturn Opposition Neptune aspect is a vacillation between skeptic vs. believer, logic vs. intuition, left brain vs. right, conservative vs. liberal, realism vs. idealism, facts vs. feelings, religion vs. spirituality, distrust vs. trust, responsible vs. irresponsible, concrete vs. nebulous, practical vs. impractical, real vs. dreamy, etc.

Now

I have been on a journey of demystifying occult knowledge and making it more comfortable for every day folk to take in. I’m reintegrating myself into the land of the norms.  There are earthly things I desire and Neptune can not provide that. I’m looking at educational options to take a degree in fine art. I don’t trust people as easily as I used to and I don’t distrust them as easily as I used to either.  I understand people lie to themselves and that I have believed in those I shouldn’t have while not believing in those I should have.

I get and understand both sides of life, and I’m trying to find the happy medium between both ways of being — not too dry, and not too wet. Not too distrusting and not too trusting.  I’m providing people with services that are familiar to them and one’s they feel safe using, while guiding them into a magical and delightful experience they can lose themselves in for a time.

It does feel odd being 40 something and just coming into my own.  It feels like I’m 10 years late, but I’m arriving, blossoming and that’s what’s important for me to remember.

Saturn Opposition Neptune is an aspect that takes time to resolve itself when on auto-pilot.  The native may need to spend a lot of time on the far side of either end of the spectrum before they can understand what the middle path looks like.  However, with support and direction of an astrologer (like myself) or other social service professionals, the native can speed up the period of time it takes to experience both sides so they may find the midpoint — that balance that will give them the wholeness they seek and deserve to have.

I’m turning my Saturn Opposition Neptune into Saturn CONJUNCT Neptune in all things — business, career, relationships, and everyday living!

Wishing you all well!

Which House Rules Prostitution In Astrology?

I was looking at the search terms that came in today for Astrogasm and one of them was this: Prostitution 6th house matter.

Please see some astrology research. It’s interesting to note that the astrology found Capricorn (10th house), Leo (Sun), 7th house (Venus), and Venus in Virgo (6th) as showing up quite often in the 166 charts they did.

I hadn’t remembered writing anything about prostitution in the 6th so I did a Google search and came across Elsa Elsa’s board (what’s new?! The woman is the Queen of Astrology on the Internet. ;-).

Anyway, this is the question a forum member posed and I decided to answer it:

Which house rules prostitution in astrology?

http://boards.elsaelsa.com/topic/which-house-rules-prostitution

@Mina I could totally see Venus Capricorn being a prostitute, as a profession.  Why?  Because Capricorn is the natural sign on the 10th house and Venus is the natural sign on the 2nd house.  These are the ‘career’ houses.

Venus Capricorn has a love of money and stability [and choose ambitious lovers].

And Venus Capricorn is like Venus-Saturn.  Having said that, not all Venus Capricorn, Venus-Saturn natives are or will be prostitutes nor will they fall in love with someone ‘just’ for their money.  But they will be more interested in someone who is financially secure, if not wealthy, but being in-love will still be important.

I wrote a bit about prostitution and the 2nd here, http://www.astrogasm.com/2012/03/11/2nd-house-sex-money-self-worth-prostitution

Also the 6th will signify a type of prostitution as well, but more at the mercy of someone else’s choosing (perhaps working for a madam rather than being an independent) because I believe the 6th is the House of submission and in this house (the house of Vesta and Virgo) the prostitute will not be paid well or recognized. They will feel ‘used’, possibly enslaved.  Whereas prostitution in the 2nd house shows a talent and ability to make money from prostituting one self.

Scorpio on the 6th could signify prostitution as well.

(Adding:  Because I can see the 6th having to do with prostitution, that means the 12th is involved too but I’d like to see Venus in that house and even then…)

I’ve wrote about Venus-Pluto being more like the Dominatrix as I believe the 8th house is the House of Domination (Pluto being the natual ruler of the 8th).  So if Venus-Pluto is doing any sex for money, she’s on top! ;-)

As for Venus Virgo.  Unless she’s in the 6th, 8th, or has some interesting planets and/or aspect in (and to) the 2nd or 10th (such as Venus, Saturn, Mars, or Pluto), I can’t see her selling sex for money or otherwise.

(Adding: I could also see Leo on or Sun in the 2nd as far as being able to prostitute oneself for money and because the Sun can identify and express itself strongly with the values and themes of the 2nd house.

Other than that, it’s all water and earth houses showing up in my thoughts!!)

And again, just because one has this placement or signatures, doesn’t mean they will become a prostitute but there is an option, opportunity, or ability to do so.

And as with anything related to reading a natal chart or analyzing the complex life and possibilities of a human being, something can show in more than one place but the meaning is modified. So, with this example, prostitution isn’t indicated by only one signature.  Many different signatures can indicate the same thing in a chart but the explanation, meaning, or experience for the native will be modified.

I <3 astrology. :D

Work: How to Enjoy It More & Have Success

When you do a job or a task have these three principles to work by:

1. Enjoy it for yourself

If you are bored, how can you make it more fun? Can it be played like a game? What parts do you like about it? Can you do more of that? Listen to the music; find the music within the work, the flow. Talk or write about the work, in a productive way, to people. Take initiative; own your job.

2. Excel at it and be the best

Can you make your job more efficient and productive? Is there something that you can do to your job to make it better than anyone thought it ever could? Can you run a seminar, write a column, become an expert? Excelling at your job means you can move on to more enjoyable activities of your own choosing.

3. Better it for others

Tweak and document processes and procedures so you can have someone take over your job (with ease) once you have reached excellence. This is very helpful for when you want to move on to bigger and better things quickly — onwards and upwards.

Please note: Do NOT use these principles if you want to perform in a mediocre way or do a job just for the money because by following these principles you will be excellent and acquire passion for everything you do.
